Project Impact Community Webinar Series: Interviewing Virtually

Steve Patty

We have been so impressed that many of you are continuing to prove and improve your impact in these chaotic times. We’ve been out there interviewing too, and we’ve learned that virtual interviews can be really powerful. We’ve also learned that there are a few key changes from our in-person interviews that help ensure virtual interviews go really well. Join us on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 9:30 AM Pacific Time to learn more about the dos and don’ts of virtual interviewing.

By now, many of you are pros at interviewing. You’ve mastered the art of creating a comfortable environment for people to reflect, holding space for them to move from outside-the-triangle responses to deeper inside-the-triangle shifts, and taking notes at lightning speed. But what happens when a screen, miles of distance, and Zoom fatigue are between you and the interviewee?

Believe it or not, we believe one of the unexpected benefits that will emerge from the pandemic is that interviewing will become easier...and maybe even better!  We’ve done more than 100 interviews during the pandemic and we’ve discovered that with a bit of extra preparation and a few minor adjustments to your process, people are willing and able to reflect on the believe, become, and love changes that they've experienced. And they’re expressing the same gratitude for the opportunity to reflect that we’ve heard time and time again in face-to-face interviews.

In this webinar, we will discuss how to make your virtual interviews as good (and maybe even better) than your face-to-face interviews. We’ll discuss what we’ve learned about:

  • How to make sure people respond to your interview request and feel comfortable being interviewed even if you don’t have a personal relationship with them

  • New tools for simplifying note taking so you can actively listen

  • How to warm people up to reflect inside-the-triangle

  • How to end the interview in a way that sets you up for ongoing engagement

We will also be sharing some examples of dos and don’ts from teams that have been trying this out over the past few months.

We look forward to seeing you!

The Project Impact Community Webinar series

We’ll be offering quarterly webinars like this one to provide a quick refresher on evaluation topics and to share some new tips and techniques that we’ve learned as well. We’ll be reviewing basics like how to write interview questions, sampling, holding an interview, data collection and data analysis. We’ll also share some new ideas like techniques to collect and use meaningful data quickly to inform your work. We’ll share the topics for our upcoming webinars in the Dialogues Digest each month. If you have a topic that you want to make sure we cover, let us know! Tag us @dialoguesimpact on Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn to share your ideas!
